Water Softener Systems

A water softener system is a unit that is used to soften water, by removing the minerals that cause the water to be hard. Water softening is an important process, because the hardness of water in different applications is reduced during this process. When water is hard, it can clog pipes, damage boilers, heat exchangers, and many other devices. Water softening can prevent these negative effects. Hard water causes a higher risk of lime scale deposits in industrial, commercial and household water systems. Due to this lime scale build-up, pipes are blocked and the efficiency of hot boilers and tanks is reduced. This increases the cost of domestic water heating by about fifteen to twenty percent. Another negative effect of lime scale is that it has damaging effects on household machinery, such as laundry machines. Water softening using Atlantic Solutions water softener system expands the life span of each household machine, such as laundry machines, and the life span of pipelines. It also contributes to the improved working, and longer lifespan of solar heating systems, air conditioning units and many other water-based applications.

The presence of calcium & magnesium (known as hardness) lead to the formation of scale which in turn results into clogging of pipelines and fixtures, scaling of boiler tubes, cooling towers fins, solar heater coils or stains on fabric. These industrial water softener Plant, water softener systems and automatic water softener Plant removes the hardness in feed water. This is a resin based unit which requires charging with salt at periodic intervals based on designed specifications. This water softening system is available in manual and automatic option.

Uses for Commercial Water Softeners:

Commercial water softeners remove hardness in exchange for salt. The resin attracts hardness in the water and exchanges it with salt, which is regenerated periodically. As the resin accumulates more hardness, the system must be regenerated using a brine solution. This rinses away the hardness and replenishes salt on the surface of the resin. The softened water can then pass through an RO system to remove the salt without the risk of scaling.

Commercial water softener is designed specifically to remove high levels of dissolved solids that create hard water conditions, principally Calcium and Magnesium. These systems have a very high operating capacity, which make them ideal for most commercial and industrial applications.

Uses for Industrial Water Softeners:

Industrial water softeners treat the water by removing hardness using resin. The resin replaces the hardness in the water with salt which is regenerated periodically. The softened water can then pass through an RO system to remove the salt without the risk of scaling. Softeners can be used in a variety of services including: industrial, municipal, and institutional applications.

Softener Sizing:

A softener is sized on the basis of two different parameters:

  • Exchange capacity, which is the quantity of water delivered between regenerations
  • Maximum flow rate, which is the maximum quantity of water required at any peak usage period.
  • Exchange capacity depends upon the amount of ion exchange resin in the softener and quantity of salt used for resin regeneration. Maximum flow rate is an important datum in case of non-continuous water delivery and is measured in gallons per minute (GPM).
